CUENCA, AZUAY – July 18, 2025 – Cuenca's highly anticipated Arco Park, strategically located at the intersection of Av. Loja and Av. 10 de Agosto, is showing significant progress and is on track to become one of the city's newest urban green spaces. What began as a vision to revitalize a key area is now rapidly taking shape, promising a fresh recreational and historical landmark for both residents and visitors.
Earlier this week, Cuenca's Mayor, Cristian Zamora, along with the technical team from the Project Execution Unit, toured the site to review the advancements. The project, which has seen an investment of over $1.3 million, is nearing its final stages. A key highlight for Mayor Zamora during the inspection was the successful recovery of the ancient water channel. "This new park will be full of history because the water channel that once fed a hydroelectric plant is being recovered," commented Mayor Zamora, emphasizing the park's unique blend of historical preservation and modern urban design.
The extensive work at Arco Park included the crucial installation of hydro-sanitary systems, connections for sewerage, electrical networks, and telephone lines, all foundational elements for the park's operational capacity. More recently, electrical installations and the placement of new luminaries were completed along the Av. Loja, specifically near the Arco bridge between Av. 10 de Agosto and Cantón Gualaceo street, enhancing safety and aesthetics for the surrounding area.
Upon its expected delivery in September, Arco Park will boast a range of features designed to cater to diverse users. Visitors can look forward to a panoramic viewpoint, complete with steel and glass handrails, offering stunning vistas. Convenient parking facilities for vehicles and dedicated bicycle parking will ensure easy access. Families will be able to enjoy newly recovered walkways, explore bio-healthy exercise equipment, relax in expansive green areas, and admire meticulously designed gardeners.
In a commitment to inclusion, the park's pathways will feature podo-tactile flooring, specifically designed to assist individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring a welcoming environment for everyone.
Arco Park is set to be more than just a green space; it's being developed as a dynamic hub for community interaction, blending historical significance with modern amenities. As the city anticipates its opening, this new urban oasis promises to be a cherished addition to Cuenca's public spaces.
