Hello, Cuenca Expat HUB! As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to make sure you're all aware of a fantastic opportunity tied to the city's most significant annual event: the Cuenca Independence Anniversary.
We're talking about the third edition of the Bakansote Fest, a music festival that showcases emerging talent right here in our city. The exciting news? This year, for the first time, it's open not just to bands but also to solo artists.
What Makes This Festival Special
The Bakansote Fest is a highlight of the November 3rd Independence Anniversary celebrations. This is a day that commemorates Cuenca's independence from Spanish rule in 1820, a pivotal event that played a key role in Ecuador's history. The city comes alive with parades, cultural events, and a general air of festivity, making it a truly unique experience.
During the independence fairs, local parks and public spaces transform into vibrant stages where artists perform. The Bakansote Fest takes this a step further, offering musicians a chance to perform alongside well-known national artists and gain exposure.
We will be announcing more in the near future about events and activities that start springing up as part of the calendar for the Independence Anniversary.
Coming back to this initiative by the Azuay Prefecture, the state government plus the private organizers have established a reward system beyond just performing. This year, the festival is offering an incredible prize package designed to help artists launch their careers:
The chance to perform on stage with prominent Ecuadorian artists.
Professional recording and mastering of their songs.
The production of a high-quality music video.
Mentorship and support to help them advance their musical careers.
Your Chance to Get Involved
If you or someone you know is a musician, this is a phenomenal opportunity to become part of Cuenca's vibrant artistic community and the annual independence festivities. Applications are open until October 10th.

The Bakansote Fest is a fantastic way to engage with the local culture and witness the incredible talent that thrives here. If you can't be on stage, be sure to head out to the public squares during the November fairs to enjoy the performances and soak in the festive atmosphere.
We hope to see some of your friends or neighbors up there!
